Before the Book, There Was a Post

Before A Family Full of Love existed, there was a Facebook post.
It was June 2, 2020 — a moment when the world felt impossibly heavy. Like many parents, I was juggling full-time work, remote learning, and keeping my kids safe during a pandemic, all while carrying the emotional weight of the murders of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd.
As an Asian American woman married to an African American man, raising two biracial children in suburbia, I was trying to process my own grief — while shielding my children from it at the same time.
One night, I asked my husband if he'd be okay with me sharing our story in our local Facebook group. Not to make a statement. Not to go viral. Just to use my voice — to be honest about our fears and the everyday realities of racism our family faces.
I hit "post"… and didn't expect much.
The response was overwhelming.
People from our community — and then far beyond it — showed up with so much love and encouragement. I never imagined that something I wrote from the heart would resonate the way it did. But that outpouring of support gave me the courage to keep writing.
That moment planted a seed. When I went looking for children's books where my kids could see themselves reflected — and couldn't find them — I sat down and started writing. I didn't realize it at the time, but I had just written my first children's book manuscript.
Every journey has a beginning, and for this book, it started with a single post.
