Writing a children's book is a journey full of heart. But sometimes the road takes a turn you didn't plan for. Book 2 is coming — the story, the message, the love behind it is all there. But I'm facing something I wasn't prepared for: I've lost contact with my illustrator. First, to her — I genuinely hope she's okay. People matter far more than projects.

Our home is a celebration. It is the joy of two histories, two cultures, two ways of understanding the world — all held together by an extraordinary amount of love. Raising a Black and Asian family is a gift. But it is also a responsibility. Our children are not half of anything. They are wholly themselves. Wholly Black. Wholly Asian. Wholly loved. You are not too complicated. You are beautifully, perfectly whole.

Representation in children's literature is not a trend. It is not a checkbox. It is a fundamental need. When a child opens a book and sees a character who looks like them, who lives in a family like theirs — something powerful happens. They feel validated. They feel visible. They feel worthy of being the main character in a story. Books are not just entertainment. For a child, a book can be a mirror, a window, and a door.
